What is Social Media or What is Social Marketing are questions that many home business owners or small business owners are asking. Whether you have a home business, based on the internet, or a local small business, you have to admit that advertising is changing. When someone is looking for what you have, do you want their search to result in finding you?

While yellow page ads in a physical phone book may have been effective in the past, it is not the way of the future. Many people access information online now, and as we move forward most people will do so. We look up locations and phone numbers online and may use the yellow pages website to do so. But we are looking for more information and even ways to interact online.

Business websites are growing by leaps and bounds. The purpose of a company’s website can be one of several. There are sites that are targeted for retail sales. Some brands like to focus on customer service, and still others host sites where they encourage customers, clients, or users to participate. These interactive sites can utilize the social media tools and services that are in abundance on the internet today.

At the very least, a business must have a website presence. From there, the task is to get traffic to that website. There are targeted ways to do that and include social media marketing.

The way a potential visitor will find a business website is to search for words that are associated with the product or service that the company represents. Taking the time to do some keyword research is valuable in terms of a website’s success in getting traffic that can convert to customer.

Once the keywords are determined they can be used in many ways to attract people to the business online. Keywords can be utilized in social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and across many smaller social sites, to find people with the same interests. Blog posts and articles that are written to provide information of value, or entertainment, can be written using the keywords. Social media sites can vote on or forward the content so that word spreads virally.

The power of social media to distribute content all over the internet, all over the world, is a powerful new way of attracting customers to your business. We have the ability to share our information in a way that is still new and is the way of the future.

The world of internet marketing is complex, and ever changing. In the four years that I have been marketing online, there have been tools, services, and practices that have come and gone in a relatively short time span. It can be hard to keep up with it when your main focus is operating your business, providing the service or delivering the product that sustains the business.

Home businesses and small businesses are hiring social media positions to manage their online presence. It is that important to have a website that is plugged in to the social potential of the internet. If you don’t want to hire an employee, you can partner with us for search engine optimization and social media, social marketing, and social networking for your website. The next time someone is searching for what your business can provide, will he or she find your website?

Keywords websites and search engine web marketing go hand in hand if your goal is to increase business on your site. Internet marketing is centered around keywords and finding the targeted ones to display on the website. The way that people search for a business, product or service, is to go to a search engine like Google and type in some words, better know to internet marketers as keywords. What we try to do is to determine what words people search to find what we have to offer. This is not an easy task.

There are a couple of things to look at during the search for keywords websites. First, many people are simply searching for information. It is great to post valuable content on our websites so that we are seen as reputable and an authority in our industry. Still, many folks are not looking to buy right away. When they do get closer to buying, they continue to search in the search engines, but they change their words because they have found information that helps them narrow their search terms.

That brings us to ‘buying keywords’ or ‘money keywords’ – the terms that people are searching when they have their credit card in hand and are ready to buy. There are money keywords in every industry. How do we find them? How do we know that the terms are profitable keywords? There are tools and services that help us determine this by providing us with search engine web marketing statistics on individual keywords and phrases.

I am frustrated by the number of people who get excited about making it to the first page of a search engine like Google for their keywords websites, but the keywords are not being searched by anyone. It doesn’t matter if your website ranks high in the search engines if nobody is searching for the keyword you are targeting. It’s not going to get you visitors, or buyers.

Next is choosing a keyword or phrase that is so general that the search engine web marketing competition for the keywords or phrase is astronomical. If thousands or millions of other website are already searching a generalized industry keyword, it is going to be very hard to beat them all out to get on the first page of search engine results.

Some website owners choose keywords because they think the words sound good, or fit with their business, or they want to target all of their search engine web marketing, including social media, around the words. I prefer to determine that the keywords websites get a lot of traffic and are not so competitive that I can’t get to the 1st page of Google within a very short time.

Let’s look at some examples.

If you are in the real estate business, the main keyword on your website might be real estate, or some other general keyword. The problem here is that even though there are many searches per month for ‘real estate’, there are millions of other websites that already target those same words. How are you going to compete with all of them? How will you get to the top of the search results so that people find YOUR WEBSITE?

If you are in the real estate business and you target the keyword phrase ‘preparing to buy a home’, first, there are hardly any searches per month so it won’t bring much traffic, and second there are thousands of websites already targeting this phrase. Two things here: the phrase is not good if there are few searches per month, and the number of websites targeting a phrase that isn’t good to begin with is an example of poor keyword choice.

There are also long tail keywords that web site owners will target because they think it will be easier to rank for the phrase. This doesn’t always work because the actual searches per month may be very low, so that even if you can rank for them, it doesn’t bring much traffic to the website. Also, it is more challenging to use long tail keywords because you have to do a lot of work to market for the specific long tail phrase.

Keywords websites and finding the terms that will convert to business is part of the research web site owners need to do in order to find the money words that will help grow their business. Search engine web marketing is a science that requires specific work and diligent research. It is very hard and time consuming to accomplish without internet marketing tools and services that can deliver results based on performance.

For women who want to incorporate sharing their knowledge of motherhood with earning some extra income for their families with a home business, mommy blogging can be an effective way to integrate business with pleasure.

Life for a mom who’s connected online to any of an abundance of social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc., is very different than it was for moms of even a couple of years ago. I know that I would have appreciated jumping online any time of the day or night and getting words of wisdom about the latest mommy crisis, or just chatting with another mom who has survived a phase in the life of a two year old.

These women connect over the bond of having children, and they are eager to help each other, and help in return. They become friends, virtual friends, with other moms all over the world. How else can these women connect so easily, and 24 hours per day, if not for the internet and these online social communites.

These mommy blogs link their readers to other blogs, many creating directories or blogrolls of their favorites. They share resources relating to motherhood, kids, families, and even business topics. Some mommy blogs review products for brands who want to publish feedback for easy access. Other home business blogs earn income from advertising or they incorporate their online business in their blog.

If you think about it, just like you do offline, you build relationships of trust with people, friends, who you have something in common. And who better to look to for information when you need a referral for baby or family products than your friends.

Most mommy blogs are high quality websites featuring useful information, entertaining stories, and enlightening tips that are of great benefit to new moms or moms struggling through a particular parenting challenge. The website designs, graphics, personal pictures, and creative content keep readers coming back to visit often and passing the site along which makes these websites very viral in the online world.

If you are a new mom, or a new reader of mommy blogs, interested in home business or social networking, below are some resources to check out. They either list the top blogs, or give reviews of popular mom blogs.

The past couple of days we have had ‘Community Days’ in our small town. Community Days is a social experience. Whether offline, or online, a community is all about people.

Getting together with local folks in your town to talk, play games, eat good food, and watch fireworks is a fun time. There are all kinds of social communities online as well. The interaction may be different but it is still fun to meet folks from a much wider area than your hometown. Communicating with folks all over the world are what these social communities online are all about.

You can find great content on these sites. There are different twists to each although you can catch on pretty quick how to get the most out of your time on each.

In case you might not be familiar with social networking and media sites, I have posted below several that I have joined. You can meet up with me there if you want.
